NEWSFLASH

The world is ending tomorrow. What are you going to do?

Apparently someone forgot to put 50p in the meter and that means the sun will be going out tomorrow at midnight.

The upshot being that the world is ending tomorrow with no chance of anyone surviving.

What would you do if you found out the world was ending tomorrow?

For a lot of people it would mean that their inhibitions would go out of the window. They would go and drink and screw and take drugs and perhaps tick as many things off of their bucket list as possible.

Because why not?

The world is going to end tomorrow so let’s go crazy!

Right?

Yeah, if the world is definitely going to end why not go and do all the things that you were holding yourself back from?

Taking the handbrake off of your life

But what is it about the world ending tomorrow that would allow people to take the handbrake off of their life?

There are 4 things that, I can think of, would change in people’s decision making processes if they found out the world was ending.

1. The Law of the land

Maybe you’ve always wanted to do acid?

Perhaps living like your life was GTA5 would flick your switches.

Stop imagining what it’s like to pilot a submarine and actually go and steal one.

All of this would now be possible because firstly the police are hardly going to be interested in doing their jobs if the world is ending.
Secondly if you did get a real stickler cop then the worst that happens is you’re locked up until midnight when the world ends anyway…

2. Money would cease to have any value

Money is such a strange commodity it only has value because we’ve all learnt as a society that it has value.

Money would automatically cease to have any value whatsoever if a time limit on life such as the sun going out were to actually happen.

It would be a massive leveller as those with money would lose their main power.

3. Forget any meaningful travel

Want to spend your last few hours alive on a beautiful beach in the South of France?
Yeah, sorry, the pilots have decided they didn’t want to do that any more as they’ve all committed to a race to the moon with all their other pilot friends.

4. Judgement disappears also

Well the fear of it at least.

And herein lies the bulk of what I really want to talk about but let’s briefly talk about the other parts properly before we really dive into this.

Law-abiding citizen

In the most part most people don’t break the law because they’re good people.

Whilst some laws like tax paying, euthanasia etc might seem unfair or unjust most of the things that are against the law people don’t do because they don’t want to.

Penn Jilette, of Penn and Teller fame, is quoted as saying

“I have raped and killed everyone I want to, because the amount of people on my list is zero”

Admittedly this was an anti-God argument as opposed to anything else but the point remains.
It isn’t the law stopping most people from doing the things they want to do.

Maybe you’d go and punch someone in the face but I doubt most people would honestly do anything more than that.

Money, money, money

God, I hate Abba.

As mentioned above money becomes useless in a world ending scenario.

So IF money is stopping you from doing something now it certainly isn’t going to change your ability to do anything once it is useless.

Stuck in the mud

If you’ve got a car and no-one steals it then you can drive as far as you can within 24 hours.

Maybe 1,000 miles if you’re lucky.
Realistically you’re stuck within your own country providing you have transport.

So travelling is a little bit off the menu really…

What are you actually going to do when the world ends tomorrow?

Where have we got to then?

You’re not going to do anything illegal.

Money, or the lack of value in it, is going to prevent you from doing anything truly outlandish

Oh and all but the most basic travel is out of the window.

So what are you going to do?

My guess would be you’re going to do all the things that you would do if you weren’t worried about what everyone else thought about you and if you weren’t scared.

You’d finally go skinny-dipping because who cares what you look like naked now.

Perhaps you’d message that person you’ve always liked and told them how you’ve always felt. Because the crippling feeling of rejection can only last 24 hours and what if they say they feel the same way?

Maybe you’d go cliff-diving because you were always scared of dying and who cares if you do now?

And ultimately you’d probably want to surround yourself with the people that are most important to you so that you could bask in the end of the world together.

It is at this point I’m hoping a part of you will realise how pointless and worthless your material possessions are.

The mobile phone, the Balenciaga hat, the Christian Loboutin shoes, the Rolex, the Dior suit.

All worthless.

It doesn’t make you better than anyone, and it never did.

I’m not hating on expensive stuff it’s just important that you realise that there are things outside of expensive stuff that is so much more fundamental to your happiness.

And that’s the case whether the world is ending or not.

Live every day as if it were your last.

This is perhaps one of the most misunderstood statements ever.

I make no apology for that statement as I don’t think it is an exaggeration at all.

People tend to think this means that you should go out, go crazy, drink, smoke, have sex, take drugs because you could die tomorrow.

So why not?

But you’re not going to die tomorrow.

So you’ll just wake-up with a hangover, anxiety, and a lingering question about why your genitals are itching.

So what does it mean?

Well when I think of this my answer is, annoyingly, a question.

“How would you like to be remembered?”

If you’d like to be remembered as a wild party animal/herpes superspreader then you carry on as you were.

Most people would like to be remembered as having been a good, kind and honest person, you’re probably not too different.

This is now our opportunity to look at how we live our lives and decide if we’re happy with it.

If we died tomorrow would we be content knowing that the final few hours were spent “Keeping up with the Kardashians”

Would we be happy if our last day on earth was spent being bitter, resentful and unforgiving towards someone who had wronged us?

Looking at the term “Living each day as if it were our last” should hopefully take on a slightly different meaning to you.

F.C.U.K

What ever happened to French Connection? Did they disappear, a quick google search would tell me I’m sure but that would involve opening a new tab.

Well, that was a tangent.

When people become life coaching clients of mine aside from the goals that we decide they should be working towards I also encourage them to live in a certain way.

It is entirely not by design, although no-one will ever believe me, that it spells a popular swear word.

That’s why I simply called it “Being Awesome”.

But it breaks down into the following attributes.

Forgiving.

Understanding.

Compassionate.

Kind.

This is both to other people and towards yourself.

I think that those 4 traits cover completely how I believe an awesome human being should be.

I talk about this in a lot more depth in my free webinar which you can access here

Back to the matter at hand

I asked what would you do if the world ended tomorrow.

I’ve then pointed out all the restrictions that would be placed on you because of the world ending.

I’m hoping perhaps that you still have an answer to the question though.

This will allow me to ask you an even more annoying question.

What is stopping you doing all the things you said you’d do if the world ended tomorrow?

It is more than likely one of two things:

  1. Worrying about judgement from others
  2. Fear

Perhaps it is something else entirely in which case I’m all ears, you can send me a message using the contact form below.

However, I’m relatively confident that it is judgement or fear that is standing in your way.

And how sad is that?

The really awesome and powerful things that we want to do are not being done because we’re afraid of what other people might think or just plain afraid.

What if I told you that I could help you to do those amazing things that you want to do. And you could do them and succeed at them without the need for the sun to go out?

This is what is at the essence of Life Coaching.

Working together with me we can find what you really want to do, what will genuinely make you happy.

Once we’ve found that out we make it happen.

If that sounds like something you’d love to hear more about then why not either drop me a message or click below to book in a completely free exploratory call.

SIDE NOTE: I’m aware that the sun going out wouldn’t cause instant death, instead it would be a long, painful, slow and cold over a couple of weeks. But the idea of writing about an asteroid hitting the earth is just so cliché.
